This extension is a great way to quickly get the dimensions of any element on those websites that have fixed layouts.

If you are designing for yourself then it shouldn't be too difficult to get any particular element's dimension by adjusting your browser just so, but sometimes this extension will make things much easier for others who might want to measure different elements in relation to each other.

There are also many situations where web designers are given screenshots of how a design should look rather than more detailed mockups as PNGs or JPEGs.
